Guidi: "I can't wait to compete in Serie B."

"I didn't believe it until I got to the medical." These were the first words of Matteo Guidi , Cesena 's second signing. 22 years old, with a strong physique, a lot of determination and desire to succeed. "Naturally, I'm happy to be here, playing in a major club and in front of a crowd that really feels it on the pitch. When I came to play at the Manuzzi, I felt the great love these fans have for the team. When I stepped onto the pitch yesterday, I got goosebumps remembering the energy and enthusiasm I felt as an opponent against Cesena. So I'm grateful and thank the club for this show of confidence in me." So much Serie C, over 100 games with Pontedera in the last 3 years, was it time for the move to Serie B? "I expected him to arrive," he admits. "I think I can compete in the second division. I'll try to give it my all on the pitch, I'll be the first to chase down the opponent, and I'll give everything for this jersey. I'm at the coach's disposal, and he'll make the decisions. I'll try to face everything with a smile."

Determination and clarity. The midfielder then spoke about the versatility that is somewhat of his trademark. "Last season," he said, "I played half the season as a defender, right-back in a three-man defense, and the other half as a midfielder, a holding midfielder. Specifically, let's say that as a defender I prefer to build play, while as a midfielder I prefer to win balls back." The young man has clear ideas and makes no secret of his ambitions, humble but focused on the great opportunity Cesena is offering him. "The years in Serie D and Serie C were incredibly useful," he continued, "and I learned a lot in the fourth division too. Now I can't wait to get started on this new, extraordinary professional adventure."
